Aquaman Film

New HBO Max original content details just emerged for everyone eagerly awaiting the new streaming service to launch sometime this May.

A three-part, animated miniseries titled Aquaman: King of Atlantis, as well as a new Green Lantern-inspired series, was announced at the WarnerMedia Television Critics Association (TCA).

Aquaman: King of Atlantis will be executive produced by James Wan and his production company, Atomic Monster. (Wan also directed the 2018 film Aquaman.) Warner Bros. Animation will produce the series, which is based on the classic DC character Aquaman created by Mort Weisinger and Paul Norris. Each standalone episode will have a unique storyline following the adventures of Aquaman as protector of the deep.

According to WarnerMedia:

“The series begins with Aquaman’s first day on the job as king of Atlantis, and he’s got a LOT of catching up to do. Luckily, he has his two royal advisors to back him up — Vulko, the scholar, and Mera, the water-controlling warrior-princess. Between dealing with unscrupulous surface dwellers, elder evils from beyond time, and his own half-brother who wants to overthrow him, Aquaman is going to have to rise to the challenge and prove to his subjects, and to himself, that he’s the right man for the trident!”

Green Lantern DC Comics

Greg Berlanti will produce the upcoming Green Lantern series. Berlanti is no stranger to DC properties, as he co-wrote and produced the film Green Lantern (2011) and is a producer behind multiple DC-inspired television series, including Batwoman, Supergirl, Flash, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow

Fewer details are known about the Green Lantern series’ premise (and official show title), although Sarah Aubrey, head of original content at HBO Max, revealed that the show will span several decades and focus on two stories about Green Lanterns on earth. A Sinestro storyline will also take place in space. In the DC universe, Sinestro is the archenemy of Hal Jordan.
