While the end of Avengers: Infinity War may or may not have brought about the demise of about half the Avengers, we can’t help but wonder who will survive, be resurrected, or appear in an alternate realm (ahem, thanks Tom Holland for that one) in next year’s Avengers 4.
While we won’t have any confirmed answers until the film’s release, we’ll certainly take any hints or theories anyone will give us to make the lengthy wait a tad less agonizing.
The latest Marvel Universe spoilers indicate it could be the end of the road for one of our favorites, and a possible replacement in the Avengers squad lineup. According to BGR, they’ve found some evidence that Iron Man (played by Robert Downey Jr.) might not return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe post-Avengers 4 (whether it be death or retirement still remains an unsolved mystery for now). On top of that, it seems like he’s getting replaced by recent Marvel Comics hero, Ironheart. The black female superhero, also known as Riri Williams, is mentored by Tony Stark in the comics and then takes up the Iron Man mantle in his place.
While Ironheart has yet to be officially announced, a script by Jada Rodriguez was posted on The Black List, and features the Iron Man disciple. The Black List, a restricted Twitter account where Hollywood screenwriters can share scripts with agents and producers, wrote in a tweet, “Ironheart by Jada Rodriguez was one of the best scripts our readers read last week.”

A Black List synopsis describes the film’s focus as “African American girl who dedicates her life to becoming a superhero, with the help of Tony Stark.” Black List’s Twitter feed teased this about the potential film, “When a young African American girl loses hope in humanity, she dedicates her life, with the help of Tony Stark, to becoming a superhero… not knowing she is her own worst enemy…”
As Screen Rant explains, Rodriguez could not have penned such a script without holding the rights to the Ironheart intellectual property, which would mean that she was hired by Marvel to create the script. While obviously nothing is set in stone and officially announced yet, if Ironheart does become the next flick in the Marvel Universe, it would certainly expand the MCU’s rank of diversity and women-led films.
