Things are all hunky dory in Barbie World!
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of David Bowie’s Hunky Dory album, which first debuted in 1971, Mattel is honoring the superstar by releasing a limited-edition Barbie inspired by Bowie’s look in his music video for “Life on Mars?” The doll is a pretty thing from head-to-toe, with Bowie’s replicated red, ‘70s glam haircut; eccentric blue eyeshadow; and bright-pink lip. The Barbie is also wearing Bowie’s foil pin-striped shirt and patterned tie beneath his iconic, powder-blue suit and platform shoes.
This is the second David Bowie tribute Barbie Mattel has created. The first — designed to fill your heart — was inspired by Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust persona and featured the doll in Ziggy’s space suit with other stunning features that help encapsulate Bowie’s glam rock style.
The Hunky Dory Anniversary Barbie will be in a box with “Bowie” written in white with the doll posed in front of a psychedelic, black-and-white patterned background and the “floor” of the box is light blue.
The doll can be a part of your music memorabilia or Barbie collection starting today, June 29, for $50.
