Finally, after much a lot of hype from Marvel fans, Black Widow is getting her own solo film, and Marvel Studios has a shortlist of directors. According to Variety, the studio met with 65 potential directors. Taking a lead from Wonder Woman‘s book, Marvel is looking for a female director to lead the movie. Cate Shortland (who slayed directing Lore) is one name up for consideration along with Amma Asante (Belle) and Maggie Betts (Novitiate). All three reportedly met with Black Widow actress Scarlett Johansson and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.
Black Widow will mark the first Marvel movie solely directed by a woman—even Captain Marvel is co-directed by a dude, Ryan Fleck. Black Widow is in development as we speak, and though the plot is still unclear, hopefully, this movie will be the start of Marvel shaking things up a bit and letting some BAMF ladies lead the way.
