The role of Cassandra Cain is the last open slot in the cast of Warner Bros.’ Harley Quinn spinoff, Birds of Prey, and it’s about to be filled. Ella Jay Basco is in negotiations to play the superhero. Basco has appeared in guest roles on Grey’s Anatomy, Veep, and Superior Donuts, but this will be her first major role.

In DC Comics, Cassandra Cain is the daughter of two assassins, and was raised with no speech or human contact to become the world’s greatest assassin. As a result, Cassandra is a mute martial artist who goes by the code name Orphan.

As for the rest of the Birds of Prey cast, Margot Robbie will play Harley Quinn, Mary Elizabeth Winstead will play Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell will play Black Canary, Rosie Perez will play police detective Renee Montoya, and Ewan McGregor will play villain Black Mask. In the film, Harley Quinn, Huntress, and Black Canary team up to protect Cassandra Cain after she discovers a diamond that belongs to Black Mask.

Robbie is producing with Sue Kroll and Bryan Unkeless, and Cathy Yan is directing the film. The movie is set to hit theaters on Feb. 7, 2020.
