In a recent interview with Variety, Chris Pine was asked if he would be interested in a return as Captain James Kirk in a fourth Star Trek film—and while Pine chose his words carefully—he did hint at his interest in participating in a future project.

“I don’t know, man.” Pine explained. “I’d love to be involved, and we’ll see what happens. I’ll await the phone call. Until then, I look forward to it.”
Pine’s words might come as a surprise to fans familiar with the franchise, since previous reports indicated that a fourth flick was put on hold due to ongoing contract negotiations with Pine and Chris Hemsworth. Since then, rumors that filming will begin early next year have swirled, with S.J. Clarkson making history as the first female to lead a Star Trek film.
While the franchise’s future is still unclear, Trekkies around the world can take solace in the fact that dreams of a fourth film are not dead. Some of Pine’s costars share his feelings about returning.
“Hopefully, we get back for another movie, or two of them.” Karl Urban, who plays Leonard “Bones” McCoy, said. “We are just sort of waiting on negotiations. I’m confident we will.”
Cross those fingers you guys.
