Today is National Polka Dot Day, and Citizen is honoring the icon who’s made polka dots her signature look for almost a century: Minnie Mouse. To celebrate the day and (the fast-approaching) Women’s History Month, the luxe watch company released a new timepiece featuring the original female Disney icon.
The Empowered Minnie Mouse watch was designed by celebrated Disney illustrator Jeff Shelly, who served as Director of Character Art for Imagineering-Disney Parks, Experiences, and Consumer Products for almost three decades. The watch features a Working Girl style Minnie looking triumphant over a polka-dotted bar chart that shows her success is going nowhere but up.
Featuring a mix of gold and silver-toned Stainless Steel, the watch will appeal to those who like mixing metals. Minnie herself, meanwhile, appears dressed in pale pink and gold surrounded by crystal markers. And the ultimate power move? The watch runs on any light with Eco-Drive technology, meaning it will never need a battery.
Empowered Minnie Mouse costs $395, and joins a collection of other dynamic female characters from the Disney cannon — Elsa and Ursula, for example — available on the Citizen website. For a short time only, customers will receive a limited edition art print also by Jeff Shelly, depicting Mickey Mouse in the ‘20s, ‘50s, and 2020s.
