Helena Bonham Carter

Tick tock. Tick Tock. Tick tock. Unfortunately, impatiently watching the clock has not brought us the third season of The Crown any sooner, but a girl can hope.

After more than 18 months of waiting since the second season aired, fans finally get an update. In a letter sent to investors after sharing first-quarter financial results, Netflix says that the hit original show will be released in the second half of the year. So, you know, it’s not a date we can highlight on our handy dandy Google calendars, but it’s something. Kind of. (I’ll take whatever news I can get! *cries*)

The only concrete date we have is July 1: As in, the show will absolutely definitely not be streaming anytime before then.

“We’re looking forward to a strong slate of global content in the second half of the year, including new seasons of some of our biggest series,” Netflix notes in the letter.

The much-anticipated third season of The Crown will start in 1963 and will feature new actors in the starring roles. (Hey, everyone has to age, people!) Olivia Coleman is our new Queen Elizabeth II, while Tobias Menzies, Ben Daniels, and Helena Bonham Carter will play Prince Philip, Lord Snowdon, and Princess Margaret, respectively.

Plus, viewers will be introduced to the infamous Camilla Parker Bowles (Emerald Fennell) and a more grown-up (in years, if not temperament) Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor). Marion Bailey is set to play the Queen Mother.

Obviously, we all know exactly how this ends because, you know, history; but I for one am so excited, and I just can’t hide it!

Netflix also announced that The Witcher will hit TV screens sometime during the last three months of the year. The fantasy drama series features Henry Cavill (yas!) as Geralt of Rivia. Created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, the series is based on the book series of the same name by Andrzej Sapkowski and is an epic tale of fate and family.

Geralt, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together. Whew, Netflix, OK.
