It’s a good year to be Walt Disney Studios (as if it isn’t always).
Yesterday, the studio announced that the latest installment in the Toy Story franchise, Toy Story 4, has made more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office.
In case you haven’t been counting, that is the fifth movie from the studio and its subsidiaries to clear the 10-figure hurtle at the box office this year. The other four were Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame (which also holds the current title of the highest-grossing movie of all time), Aladdin, and The Lion King.
It’s the first studio to ever achieve this feat, but I think it’s safe to say that Disney’s record-breaking year is far from over. The studio still has a few releases left on the calendar, including two little movies called Frozen 2 and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
At this point, Disney is just basically breaking its own box office records across the board. But it may take even them a while to best this year.
