Vudu has entered an agreement to be purchased by Comcast-owned Fandango, a movie ticket e-tailer and digital hub for movie and TV news. Fandango purchased the streaming company from mass retailer Walmart for an undisclosed amount.
Vudu assures its users that nothing much is changing for them, and consumers’ TV and video libraries will remain in place. According to a FAQ page on Vudu’s website, nothing about the consumer experience on any Vudu apps across devices will be different.
Though movie ticket purchases are obviously on hiatus at the moment due to stay at home restrictions caused by COVID-19, this new acquisition of the streaming service with a reported 14 million downloads may give Fandango the boost it needs.
Vudu gives consumers access to more than 150,000 movies and TV shows without a subscription. Content is available to rent or purchase.
