Walt Disney Animation Studios (WDAS) is bringing in the hit-makers for its soundtrack and original score to Frozen 2.
Returning from Frozen are Oscar- and Grammy-winning songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, along with Grammy-nominated composer Christophe Beck. Weezer, Panic! at the Disco, and Kacey Musgraves have been tapped for the end credits, during which they’ll each put a unique take on a song from the film. It’s a tough order to follow up the success of Idina Menzel‘s performance of “Let It Go” from the first film, but “Into the Unknown” just may do it. The new song, performed by Menzel along with Norwegian singer Aurora, is previewed in the latest special look at Frozen 2, released by WDAS this morning.
The entire Academy Award-winning team behind Frozen is back for Frozen 2, including directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, and producer Peter Del Vecho. Lee penned the screenplay from a story she conceived with Buck, Marc Smith, Anderson-Lopez, and Lopez.
“The music of the Lopezes and Christophe Beck are part of the DNA of Frozen,” Buck says. “We couldn’t imagine building Frozen 2 without them. They bring such a rich, emotional understanding of the world and characters, and through their incredible music we have been able to really deepen and expand the story.”
Lee, who’s since become chief creative officer at WDAS following the massive success of Frozen, adds that, “The songs and score of Frozen 2 reflect the growth of the characters and the deepening of their story. The music is fun but emotional, personal yet powerful, intimate but also epic. Kristen, Bobby, and Christophe have definitely outdone themselves and taken the music to brave new heights,” she says.
Both the Frozen 2 soundtrack and original score will be available on Nov. 15 via Walt Disney Records. Frozen 2 hits theaters on Nov. 22. The music is available for preorder and to pre-save on digital services, such as Spotify and Apple Music, now.
