Winter is coming, and the end is near for everyone’s favorite show, Game of Thrones. But according to its creator, George R.R. Martin, the series could have gone on for five more seasons.
When Variety asked Martin why Game of Thrones is ending at last night’s Emmy Awards, he responded with, “I don’t know, ask David and Dan when they come through. We could’ve gone to 11, 12, 13 seasons, but I guess they wanted a life,” referring to David Benioff and Dan Weiss, the show’s creators and showrunners. “If you’ve read my novels, you know there was enough material for more seasons,” Martin added.

He goes on to reveal that there are five Game of Thrones prequels in development that are based on other periods in the history of Westeros, ranging from 100 to 5,000 years before Game of Thrones. Looks like GOT fans will be busy for many winters to come.
