Almost 50 years after Star Wars changed pop culture forever, George Lucas is making his first-ever appearance at Comic-Con International: San Diego (SDCC).
The filmmaking legend will be at SDCC along with Academy Award-winning director Guillermo del Toro and Academy Award-winning artist Doug Chiang on Sunday, July 27, in Hall H for a panel titled “Sneak Peek of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art.”
Moderated by Queen Latifah, this panel will talk about the power of illustrated stories and the role of narrative art in society, from cave drawings to comic books. The group of film legends is coming together to promote the launch of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, an institution dedicated to illustrated storytelling founded by Lucas and Mellody Hobson.
The museum will feature works by artists including Norman Rockwell, Kadir Nelson, Jessie Willcox Smith, N.C. Wyeth, Beatrix Potter, Judy Baca, Frida Kahlo, and Maxfield Parish; comic art legends including Winsor McCay, Jack Kirby, Frank Frazetta, Alison Bechdel, Chris Ware, and R. Crumb; and photographers like Gordon Parks, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and Dorothea Lange. The museum will also be home to the Lucas Archive, featuring models, props, concept art, and costumes from throughout Lucas’s career.
The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art may not open until next year, but this panel of legends is going to wish the time would go by just a bit faster.
