Marvel’s much-anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hit theaters over the weekend, and real fans know that the music in this trilogy is just as important as the action. Both the film’s original score and the soundtrack were released earlier this month, and here’s what you need to know about adding these must-have musical compilations to your collection.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Original Score digital album features 26 songs from composer John Murphy, who also worked on music for Suicide Squad, Kick-Ass, and 28 Days Later. Murphy, who is a fan of the franchise, also recently worked with James Gunn on The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Original Score was released on 12-inch 2-LP vinyl on May 5 and will also be available on cassette on July 7. However, there are no online purchase links at the time of writing.
The movie’s soundtrack, also known as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3: Awesome Mix Vol. 3, is comprised of 17 songs and — unlike the first two films — features a mix of music from different eras (thanks to Peter Quill’s new Zune). The soundtrack includes an acoustic version of Radiohead‘s “Creep,” as well as songs like the Beastie Boys’ “No Sleep Til Brooklyn,” Bruce Springsteen‘s “Badlands,” and more. The Awesome Mix is available to purchase now in 2-LP vinyl and CD versions from Target (with two exclusive collectible cards) or Amazon.
Additionally, both albums are available for streaming on Spotify.
