Harry Potter fans, your art can officially enter the Wizarding World! Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the Broadway play currently running in New York, is hosting its first Showbill Art Contest.
If you’re unfamiliar, Broadway audiences receive a Showbill at every performance. It features the show’s content, cast, creative team, and more. Ticket holders can take the Showbill home, and some people keep it as a collectible to display at home. Fans will also gather at the stage door after a performance and have cast members sign their Showbills.
To celebrate Back To Hogwarts in September, fans can submit original artwork to be featured on the show’s Showbill cover during September. And, the magic doesn’t end there: The grand prize winner will receive $950 in cash, two tickets to the show, and a Cursed Child merch package that includes a T-shirt, Harry Potter wand, keychain, pen, mug, and their Showbill with signatures from the cast. The winner can also meet some of the cast members after the show.
The fans that come in second or third place might not see their art on the official Showbill, but they will receive tickets to the show! Fans can enter until 11:00 a.m. ET on July 8.
Just like a Quidditch match, this contest has a few rules and guidelines. The art must be inspired by Harry Potter and the Cursed Child specifically — so focus on this part of Wizarding history. Artificial Intelligence (AI) art is not permitted, your creation can’t feature other artists’ work, and film talent from the Harry Potter movies and their likeness cannot be shown (so don’t draw Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, or any other actors).
Additionally, your submission can’t be a single photograph: You must enter with a design that was drawn, collaged, painted, or created physically or digitally. Artists must also leave room for the logo, which is available alongside a Showbill template at broadway.harrypottertheplay.com, and make sure their entry fits the correct. specs.
Submissions will be judged based on the LAA Guide for Judging and Evaluating Art in Competitions. Ravenclaws and other curious Hogwarts students can find the criteria at lafayetteart.org.
The contest is open to U.S. residents only — you need to be at least 18 to submit, but younger fans can ask their parents or guardians to submit on their behalf. Fans can submit their art as an attachment, downloaded Dropbox, or Google Drive link to showbill@harrypotteronstage.com.
