Hello Kitty is getting a new look. Musubi Kiln combined the modern-day Japanese icon with traditional Japanese doll-making to create a new collection of Edo Kimekomi dolls for Hello Kitty’s 50th anniversary.
These wooden figures are made from paulownia wood and dressed in Japanese silk, with two designs to choose from. The Maiko Styled Hello Kitty ($281) combines the lucky cat design with the outfit worn by a maiko, or an apprentice geisha. These figures feature intricate kimono patterns and a bell on Hello Kitty’s bow. The Maiko Styled Hello Kitty figure is currently available in red, blue, and yellow designs and is available for preorder in purple, black, and green.
