The bells are ringing! Disney announced plans for a live-action, musical version of Hunchback of Notre Dame, according to Deadline.
Based on the iconic-yet-underrated 1996 animated film, this new live-action adaptation will feature a script penned by Tony Award-winning playwright David Henry Hwang (M. Butterfly). Disney veterans Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz are back to create the film’s music.
Frozen and live-action Beauty and the Beast actor Josh Gad is set to produce the film. The star shared his involvement on social media. Rumors suggest that Gad is in talks to star as Quasimodo in the new film as well, but it’s all speculation at this point.

The Hunchback film, based on Victor Hugo’s 1831 novel, follows deformed bell ringer Quasimodo and his friendship with gypsy Esmeralda throughout the city of Paris.
