Though news previously broke that Warner Bros. was eyeballing Idris Elba to fill the Deadshot shoes left vacant when Will Smith bowed out of the Suicide Squad reboot, alas, it’s not to be. … But, there is a silver lining.
Instead, Elba (honestly he can’t be on the screen enough for me) will play a different character in the DC remake. Who will play Deadshot? Not a soul. According to Deadline, the character won’t be featured in the new film. *Gasp!*
Writer James Gunn, who will also direct the film, reportedly still has his heart set on starting production this September in Atlanta, with the film set to release on Aug. 6, 2020.
We’re learning more about the reboot every day, but there’s still quite a bit of mystery. So far, Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn) seems to be the only returning cast member.
Despite its cold critical reception, the original 2016 film wasn’t a bust. Written and directed by David Ayer, it grossed $746.8 million at the global box office, making the studio’s decision to create a reboot instead of a sequel all the more confusing.
Ah well, all’s fair in Hollyweird.
