What’s in store for Archie and Jughead in the future of Riverdale? Just ask KJ Apa, who let a little bit too much of the plot slip in a recent interview with SyFy Wire. If you didn’t watch this week’s episode, consider this your spoiler alert!
Now Veronica’s ex and a fugitive, Archie is on the run and bringing Jughead along with him.
However, the partners in crime will soon have to split up. Apa told SyFy Wire, “But, eventually, they end up finding themselves having to, like a fork in the road, they have to go their separate ways at some point.”
Although Archie’s prison time “made him a lot stronger, a lot harder,” according to Apa, the character’s priority is to keep his friends out of danger. He will avoid Riverdale and remain solo for some time while he’s on the road.
Apa also reignited a glimmer of hope in all the Varchie fans out there with the possibility of the couple’s reunion. Archie did skip town for Veronica’s protection from Hiram and his goons, after all—like all loving drama TV show boyfriends would do.
Apa explained, “[That] being the reason for them having to part ways means that there is still something there. You know what I mean? They didn’t part ways because of someone doing something.”
Veronica and Archie have no plans of giving up on their relationship, either. “So, I think at the moment, it’s just the best thing for them,” he said.
In the meantime, Archie and Jughead will meet Laurie Lake in the next episode, “The Man in Black.” Vulture explained the character portrayed by Riley Keough is an “all-American farm girl who takes in Archie and Jughead after they wander onto her property in need of shelter, but what starts as a warm and possibly flirtatious interaction twists into a situation that presents more danger than they could have imagined.”
New episodes of Riverdale air on The CW on Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. EST. You can also binge-watch previous seasons of the high school drama on Netflix.
