Prepare to see a lot more of Snapchat filters featuring Alfred E. Neuman, the gap-toothed hero and mascot for the Mad Magazine brand.
DC Entertainment and Snapchat teamed up to bring the Mad Magazine humor to Snapchat seven days a week. Launching on Sept. 1, the content will include funny GIFs, memes, slide shows, interactive lists, and dynamic cinemagraphs. Mad writers and illustrators will be charged with whipping up some concepts, while other concepts will be built around breaking news and timely issues.
This collab reimagines Mad’s satirical content of contemporary politics and other topical issues, along with classic and nostalgic material, for an entirely new audience. John Ficarra, the former Mad senior vice president and executive editor who serves as a creative advisor for DC Entertainment, and Peter Girardi, executive vice president of Blue Ribbon Content, the digital content studio of the Warner Bros. Television Group, will oversee the project. Ficarra and Girardi are longtime creative partners, most notably teaming up for the Mad animated series that aired on Cartoon Network from 2010 to 2013.
Bring on the gap-toothed filters!
