Nintendo took full advantage of its Mario celebration with an announcement video that offered the very latest scoop. Those who can’t resist a rewatch of The Super Mario Bros. Movie will be happy to hear that their favorite plumber is hitting the big screen again, as Shigeru Miyamoto himself revealed plans for a second movie.
Shigeru Miyamoto made a surprise appearance in the MAR10 Day video to reveal Nintendo’s plans for a new animated movie, made in partnership with Illumination — the same production company that worked on the original The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The directors of the original will be making a return as well, with Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic back for the new film.
With plans to expand the world of Mario and following the success of the first Super Mario Bros. film, Nintendo is looking to the future with a new animated offering. The new movie will be released on April 3, 2026 in the U.S. Get ready for another adventure across the Mushroom Kingdom!
