Funko Entertainment Earth My Hero Academia Deku Review

In the world of anime, My Hero Academia is the hottest thing going right now.

Now in its fourth season, the series about a group of students attending a hero academy is soaring this year, becoming a full-blown franchise with a new customizable card game, a feature film in development, and a ton of newly released merch, all based on the more than 20 volumes of the original manga series in print.

And when we’re talking merch, that means that Funko is on board with a full range of Pop! Vinyl figures based on some fan favorite characters, such as Izuku Midoriya, aka “Defenseless Izuku,” or Deku, for short.

Entertainment Earth Deku Funko Pop! Review

The Entertainment Earth (EE) exclusive My Hero Academia Full Cowl Glow-in-the-Dark Deku is one of many Deku variants available. Collect one or collect ‘em all: You can find Deku in standard, training, battle, or helmeted versions, but what makes this particular variant cool is that it does glow in the dark and features the character wrapped in a translucent, electrified charge.

When it comes to Pop! Vinyl figures, Funko is so consistent that it’s hard to find much criticism in any of them, as is the case here. Deku features the high-quality design, deco, and detail that you’d expect from Funko, with the added glow-in-the-dark flair of the pink “X” and the charge, which are a bit hard to photograph.

My Hero Academia collectors will want to add this to their collection, and since initial shipments flew out the door fast, you should probably jump on it now if you want one. (EE says more are expected by January.)

Entertainment Earth Deku Funko Pop! Review

Protect your Deku with an Entertainment Earth Stackable Protector Box: For in-package collectors, EE recently began offering house brand hard protective cases for Pop! Vinyl figures (reviewed here). Given the exclusive nature of Deku, it’s a worthwhile investment to protect the mighty hero!
