On Monday night, the MTV Movie & TV Awards took place and among all the excitement of the night, Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown took a moment to deliver an important message to all the bullies.
While accepting the award for Best Performance in a Show, Brown said “If you don’t have anything nice to say, just don’t say it,” via video, as she could not be present at the awards due to a knee injury. “There should be no space in this world for bullying, and I’m not going to tolerate it, and neither should any of you.”
Last week, Brown deleted her Twitter account after users overlaid photos of her with homophobic messages, starting a viral trend depicting Brown as intolerant of marginalized communities. They used the hashtag #TakeDownMillieBobbyBrown, to really drive home the hate.
“If you need a reminder of how worthy you are and to rise above the hate, message me on Instagram,” Brown said. Users can no longer comment on her photos on Instagram, as she disabled the option.
Earlier this month, Star Wars actress Kelly Marie Tran also left social media because of online harassment.
