Sometimes the world needs a… massive, nuclear-powered robot hero!
The latest collaboration between Marvel and Mondo, which has been in the works for three years, takes inspiration from the Japanese Mecha designs of the ’80s and ’90s, combining massive robots with some of your favorite Marvel heroes for a line of collectibles.
Officially dubbed “Marvel Mecha,” this line kicked off yesterday with everyone’s favorite web-slinger, Spider-Man, in a new, robot form (technically, it’s a 100-foot robot suit).
According to the lore of Marvel Mecha, Peter Parker is donning this robot suit in the early 23rd century, when the governments of Earth have created an elite space-fighting force (MECHA) to protect the planet as it explores and expands to other planets in the galaxy.
This tale is laid out in an exclusive comic, which is part of the packaging for a 1:120-scale replica of the Spider-Man Mecha. The collectible figure stands 10 inches tall, features 30 points of articulation, and comes with a variety of accessories.
In addition to the Spider-Man Mecha, there is a limited-edition Symbiote Variant figure, which is limited to 900 pieces.
The Spider-Man ($160) and Symbiote ($170) collectibles are both available to preorder now from Mondo and are expected to ship in June.
This is the start of a larger Mecha collaboration between Marvel and Mondo, which the latter describes as “an outrageously innovative, expanding array of future-flavored figures that meld massive machinations with Earth’s most hallowed heroes.” Stay tuned to see which hero will be the next to don an enormous fighting robot suit!
