Netflix is celebrating International Women’s Day with a special collection of content chosen by female creators.
The collection — called Because She Watched — is meant to celebrate the fictional and nonfictional stories of a diverse group of women who have inspired us with hard topics that challenge the way we see the world. Global collaborators include Salma Hayek, Millie Bobby Brown, Sophia Loren, and Ava Duverney.
International Women’s Day is themed “I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights,” and this list of series, documentaries, and films includes shows such as Unbelievable, Orange is the New Black, and Sex Education. Watch the trailer below.
“[The collaboration is] about making visible the invisible and proving that only by fully representing and including women on screen, behind the camera and in our narratives overall, society will truly flourish,” says UN Women Deputy Executive Director Anita Bhatia.
Watch the collection on Netflix — each title is labeled with the powerful woman who chose it. Members can also choose from a new selection of profile icons to celebrate their favorite female characters.
