Fans of Nintendo’s iconic role-playing game series Fire Emblem are in for a treat today. Byleth, the renowned warrior and professor from the Fire Emblem: Three Houses, is joining the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate lineup to teach players a painful lesson — with Sothis at their side.
Nintendo Game Director Masahiro Sakurai — best known as the creator of the Kirby and Super Smash Bros. — unveiled the battle-hardened Byleth to the fighting series in a video released today. Byleth will enter the arena as the game’s newest long- to mid-range fighter on Jan. 28.
Sakurai demonstrated Byleth’s dangerous, ranged playstyle and revealed the Garreg Mach Monastery stage and 11 new music tracks from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. All of these new features will be available in-game for the Nintendo Switch system later this month. This drool-worthy new content will be available to players who own the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass or who purchased the Challenger Pack 5.
Byleth joins the ranks as the 80th legendary video game hero featured as a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which features the biggest crossover of video game characters in history. With a sword, ax, lance, and bow to choose from in-game, winning a battle all comes down to timing, distance, and selecting the right moments to charge their attacks. Byleth’s accompanying stage, the Garreg Mach Monastery, also features a variety of cameos from popular characters in the Fire Emblem series at different stages, including Edelgard from the Black Eagles, Claude from the Golden Deer, and Dimitri from the Blue Lions.
Fans also learned more details regarding the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass Vol. 2, which will include six more mystery fighters currently under development. Fans who purchase the Fighters Pass Vol. 2 will get access to six more yet-to-be-announced Challenger Packs as they are released. Each pack includes one new fighter, one stage, and multiple music tracks. Those who purchase the Fighters Pass Vol. 2 will also receive an exclusive costume for their Mii fighter and the Ancient Soldier Gear from Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which will be available in-game on Jan. 28.
