Twenty years ago, a young kid had his entire life changed when he heard the words, “You’re a wizard, Harry.”
Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone first appeared in theaters in November 2001, bringing J.K. Rowling’s story to the big screen and starting a franchise that would change countless other lives. Now, Wizarding World is celebrating the legacy of that movie with a deep dive into 20 key moments of the film every week until November.
Fans can tune into the 20 Years of Movie Magic hub each week to join the digital festivities. The first scene getting the spotlight is, well, the one that started it all: when Harry gets his Hogwarts letter(s). On the site, fans can read all about the scene and access related quizzes, craft videos, puzzles, and features. There’s also a video featuring the graphic design duo MinaLima, which explains how they created that iconic letter prop.
Of course, there are also big celebrations planned for Back to Hogwarts day on Sept. 1, when fans are once again invited to join in on the countdown to the Hogwarts express leaving King’s Cross. There will be an interactive celebration on the Wizarding World’s YouTube channel starting at 10:30 a.m. BST with special breaking news and an appearance from Tom Felton (it wouldn’t be a Wizarding World event without him!).
For those looking for *even more* ways to celebrate, a new anniversary edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is available for preorder on Amazon and will ship out in time for the anniversary on Nov. 2. It comes in Hogwarts Express packaging, features a Hogwarts Express ticket (finally got one!), and includes a behind-the-scenes booklet.
