Young deaths tend to hit us harder than those who lived a full and long life—it’s impossible not to imagine all of the things someone has left to do and it’s a sobering reminder of mortality.
Sons of Anarchy star Alan O’Neill died at the age of 47, confirmed his manager. His body was found by his girlfriend in their Los Angeles apartment on Wednesday. O’Neill had chronic heart problems, which paired with smoking and drinking, made for a rough situation for the Irish actor. There’s no suspected foul play, which is the extent of what’s been released about the situation thus far.
People who knew him, like his agent Annette Walsh, remember him as being “brilliant and funny.” “I’ll personally miss knowing Alan isn’t sharing the planet with us any longer, despite the miles between L.A. and Dublin, Alan was only ever a phone call away,” Walsh remarked.
O’Neill is remembered by fans largely for his role as Hugh in Sons of Anarchy, but he also played Keith for six years on Fair City.
