If you’ve been wanting to check out YouTube’s popular original series Cobra Kai but didn’t want to shell out for YouTube Premium, then we’ve got some good news for you.
YouTube officially removed the paywall for the first season of the Karate Kid spin off, making it available to all viewers (with ads, though). The first episode of season two is also free to watch, but only premium subscribers can access the rest.
This is part of YouTube’s AVOD (advertisement-based video on demand) strategy, which will remove the paywall on its original content in an attempt to get more viewers. All original content that debuts after Sept. 24 will be available for free, with ads. There will still be perks for premium subscribers, though. In addition to watching the content without ads, they will get access to entire seasons as soon as they drop. The free episodes will drop on a weekly basis.
Upcoming original content releases include new seasons for Impulse and Liza on Demand.
