Locke & Key, a comic by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez, was almost green-lit for TV before Hulu passed on a pilot. Now, Netflix is saving the day with a 10-episode order of the series from IDW Publishing.
Locke & Key is a horror comic that follows three children after the brutal murder of their father. After moving into a family home, they quickly discover that various keys around the house grant them supernatural powers. The only thing my keys do is open doors.
The original pilot was written by Joe Hill and developed for series by Carlton Cuse and IDW Entertainment, but Netflix has plans to redevelop and recast.
Cuse he will develop the series, alongside Aron Eli Coleite and Meredith Averill, who will serve as executive producers. Joe Hill and Coleite will write the first episode, with Cuse and Averill showcasing their talents as showrunners.
It’s been a long journey for Locke & Key. Years ago, Fox ordered a pilot of the series for the 2010 to 2011 TV season, but it never came to fruition. Here’s to hoping the digital series makes its way to our screens soon.
