Henry Cavill made a name for himself as the face of Superman in Man of Steel (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and Justice League (2017), but word on the street is that he may have to give his costume up for Man of Steel 2 if he doesn’t play his cards right.
According to Mario Robles, editor-in-chief of Revenge of the Fans, things aren’t going according to plan for Cavill and his manager Dany Garcia regarding contract negotiations with Warner Bros. There’s a game of hardball going on between the actor and the studio, and Superman might not come out on top this time.
For Cavill it’s “I’ve been Superman for 5 years. You want me back for a bunch more appearances and movies. Show me the money.”
For WB it’s “None of your 3 films were the smashes we hoped for. It’s hard to tell if audiences love you as much as we do. Let’s see how Fallout does.”

Robles adds that these kinds of negotiations are commonplace in the industry—it’s all business, after all.
But rumors are swirling in the superhero universe, including talk that Ben Affleck might get booted as Batman to be replaced by a fresh face in the Matt Reeves adaptation. Plus, it’s no secret that superheroes get replaced all the time, a la Andrew Garfield taking over for Tobey Maguire as Spiderman, and the laundry list of Batman movies since the dawn of time.
Hopefully, it works out better for Cavill than the backlash he received for his comments on the #MeToo movement, in which he told GQ Australia that the current social climate makes it difficult for men to approach women because they might get called a rapist. Cavill ended up apologizing, but we’d recommend treading lightly if he wants to keep his cape.
