Sashay all day! Tonight, during Her Universe’s sixth annual fashion show during International Comic-Con: San Diego (SDCC), a crop of 24 talented designers (and adorable kiddo designers to boot!) strutted their stuff on the catwalk, debuting some of the finest looks in geek couture.
While all the looks debuted on the runway were original, geeky masterpieces, deserving of the top prizes, it was designer Adria Renee who ended up taking home the judge’s choice prize for her tropical-inspired, dino-friendly Jurassic Park dress. Not to be outdone, designer Sarah Hambly won the audience’s choice award for her beaded, dark green jumpsuit that was inspired by Marvel villain Loki “as if he was a Cardi B fan.”
In addition to a stellar show and exceptional craftsmanship of the garments, fans in attendance also got some exclusive previews and teasers at upcoming collections, and of course, gorgeous fashion.
The retailer’s founder, Ashley Eckstein, sashayed down the catwalk in five original gowns, representing fandoms such as She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Batman, and the Haunted Mansion alongside her cohost, actress Tiffany Smith (Harry and Meghan: Becoming Royal). To celebrate the show’s theme of the power of fashion — in partnership with Netflix’s She-Ra — designers were tasked to create empowering and fashion-forward looks. And, each designer totally delivered.
In honor of the fashion show’s partnership with She-Ra, Eckstein revealed the exciting news that she will voice a character on the upcoming season.
Fans also got a tease at what’s to come for new merchandise, as Her Universe revealed upcoming collections and previewed new looks on the runway. Models strutted their stuff in new HU lines based on She-Ra, Star Wars, The Dress Shop, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Harry Potter. The retailer also introduced new collections surrounding Wonder Woman — created by the 2019 fashion show winners — and Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion. Needless to say, fans were buzzing about what’s coming soon for geek fashion.
