Mattel Creations is in the business of fusing toys and art, and its new collection is no exception. This time, Mattel‘s collector-focused, designer toy platform is partnering with Japanese artist Madsaki for his take on Masters of the Universe (MOTU).
Madsaki is known for his spray-paint based work, which centers around his interest in art history, often with references to popular culture or manga characters.Â

Mattel teased some of the items in the upcoming collection via the Mattel Creations Instagram. The selection includes a figure of He-Man riding Battle Cat, modified with Madsaki’s signature style and complete with a “Madsucky was here 2020” tag. It is a scaled-down version of a vibrant statue that Madsaki featured as the centerpiece of his “1984” solo exhibition in Tokyo last year. This 17-inch, collectible version will cost $450 and comes with white gloves to help keep your art in pristine condition.Â
The collection also includes hoodies, snapbacks, jackets, T-shirts, and lunchboxes that feature the artist’s take on the heroes and villains of MOTU, along with his rendition of the MOTU logo.
The full Masters of the Universe x Madsaki collection will be available on Jan 29 at 9 a.m. PT from creations.mattel.com.Â
