So you’ve watched (and rewatched) Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra on Netflix and dreamed about being a bender. And whether you personally identify with the Water Tribe, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation, or the Air Nomads, you can get ready to put your bending skills to the test with a new tabletop roleplaying game from Magpie Games!

In an agreement with ViacomCBS Consumer Products, Magpie Games has secured a multi-year licence to create a gaming experience set in the world of these beloved shows, spinning new tales that celebrate bending and friendships. Asian designers, such as James Mendez Hodes, have skillfully translated these worlds from the animation into an interactive tabletop adventure.

“We believe Magpie Games is the ideal partner to develop a roleplaying game based on Avatar: the Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra,” says Pam Kaufman, president of global consumer products at ViacomCBS. “Their commitment to supporting diverse content from diverse creators, along with their exceptional game product, made them the right choice to bring the world of Avatar to tabletop roleplaying games.”

Perfect for fans who have clamoured for more Avatar adventures, the game will feature playbooks that players can use as templates to create their own characters. As the protagonists of these new adventures, players team up to complete various story tasks, such as protecting local merchants from the Triple Threat Triad in Republic City, traveling through a spirit portal to rescue a child taken into the Spirit World, or negotiating peace between feuding communities within the Earth Kingdom. Of course, villains will arise throughout the game, and it’s up to you to put a stop to their evil plans!

Unfortunately, fans will have to wait for a while for this at-home Avatar experience — The game’s core book will be available next February, with supplements Republic City and The Spirit World debuting next August and in February 2023, respectively.
