If you’re going to take your life in your hands and leave behind your safety net to face off with rabid zombies, you better be ready to stick to your decision. Last spring, The Walking Dead’s Morgan Jones (played by Lennie James) crossed over to Fear the Walking Dead, but in the midseason premiere of the spin-off show, he’s already regretting his decision.
In the Sunday premiere on AMC, Morgan told his new peeps that he never should have left Virginia and even began making plans to return to Rick Grimes and the rest of the gang because “it’s where I belong.”
Fear the Walking Dead showrunner Ian Goldberg tells Entertainment Weekly, “Morgan’s been on a pretty big journey. He started out as someone who ran away from Alexandria, from everyone he was close to because he believed that the best way for him to live in this world was to be on his own.” Morgan’s isolation comes as no surprise to viewers—he was no stranger to surviving out there on his own before, picking up valuable combat skills like Aikido along the way.
“But there’s a big part of Morgan that is connected to the people he left behind,” Goldberg adds. “We’re going to see that he’s also wrestling with some other emotional demons that we’re going to unpack as the back half of this season goes on. And he may say that he’s going back to Alexandria, but the journey to get there is going to be filled with a lot of unexpected turns.” We wouldn’t expect anything less from a show where the weather report includes a hurricane of flying zombies.
