For Earth Day this year, sports apparel and accessories manufacturer New Era has released the NBA Global Collection, which offers light-blue baseball caps themed to each of the 30 NBA teams. These hats are made from 100% recycled fabric — specifically, yarn from REPREVE that is made from plastic bottles.
The eco-friendly theme continues in the hats’ designs, too. Each hat features an embroidered image on the front that combines that team’s logo with Earth-inspired elements. On the Lakers hat, for example, the basketball behind the team name is patterned like a globe.
One side of each hat notes any NBA championships that the team has won (it’s left blank if the team has not won any), while the back has an embroidered NBA logo above the phrase “From ___ to Worldwide.” The blank is filled in with that team’s city or state, to promote a message of global unity. Finally, the bill on all of these hats has a dark green underside, to complete the Earth theme.
