Spawn creator Todd McFarlane and Image Comics just revealed the cover art for the upcoming Spawn No. 311, which features a tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman.
The illustration depicts Boseman with his arms crossed in the iconic “Wakanda Forever” gesture, wearing an outfit that blends elements of Spawn’s ensemble (such as the high-collared cape, spiked gloves, and chains) with homages to the Black Panther costume.
The cover also reads “In memory of Chadwick Boseman (1976-2020)” at the top.
McFarlane says he thought it was appropriate for Spawn to pay tribute to Boseman, someone who made a major impact portraying a superhero of color. “Chadwick Boseman is a person who honed his skills and then made a career using them,” McFarlane says. “Then he fought a fight against his own body that showed the true spirit of this man. We should all admire the traits Chadwick shared with us. And the inspiration he gave to millions of children around the globe who got to see a strong, meaningful and proud hero that looked like themselves.”
This cover will be available at comic book shops starting on Wednesday, Oct. 28.
