Space may have been “the final frontier,” but the Star Trek franchise is still exploring new mediums. Next up? The world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
Fresh off of a month packed with official Marvel releases, digital collectibles manufacturer VeVe has another major pop-culture collection ready to reveal: Star Trek. Today, the company announced that it has partnered with this iconic sci-fi franchise to release the first set of ships and items from Star Trek: The Next Generation as NFTs.
This new collection will drop, fittingly, tomorrow — aka Star Trek Day! Available starting at 8 a.m. PT, the drop will feature two iconic Star Trek ships: the U.S.S. Enterprise-D and the Borg Cube. Both of these collectibles will be available in two different scales, 1:1000 (common) and 1:1 (rare).
For the Borg Cube, there will be 9,888 common versions for $40 and 6,888 rare versions for $110. Up to 8,888 Trekkies can snag a common U.S.S. Enterprise-D for $60, but only 5,888 can get the larger size for $130.
Both ships will be available to purchase exclusively in the VeVe app. After purchasing the digital collectibles, fans can display them using augmented reality, which is why those 1:1-scale versions are so cool. Who wouldn’t want to see a full-sized Borg Cube in their backyard?
