With just over two months to go before Star Wars Celebration was scheduled to kick off in Anaheim, California, Lucasfilm and Reedpop have officially canceled the convention “due to the global impact of the COVID-19 virus.”
At this time, there is no mention of a virtual alternative for the event.
While the news may be disappointing for fans who were anticipating updates from a galaxy far, far, away, the cancellation is not all that surprising — Star Wars Celebration (originally planned for August 27-30) is joining a long list of summer fan conventions that were either nixed completely or postponed due to the pandemic.
There is, however, a new set of dates that Star Wars fans can mark on their calendars: Star Wars Celebration will return to Anaheim from Aug. 18-21, 2022.
For those who planned to attend this year’s force-filled convention, details about ticket transfers and refunds are available at starwarscelebration.com. Those who choose to transfer their tickets to the 2022 show will get a free, exclusive Star Wars Celebration stormtrooper pin. Also, if you preordered merch, you can choose to still receive your order or request a refund. The request period for ticket and merch refunds will start on Monday, June 22, and run through August 26.
