Crunchyroll revealed some new information at New York Comic Con (NYCC) and let’s just say, anime fans might want to clear their 2024 schedules. The streaming platform will welcome several new titles and new seasons next year, including The Unwanted Undead Adventurer and Sengoku Youko. There are so many new options, it might be tough to decide what to invest in — but hey, that’s a good problem!
Crunchyroll also surprised NYCC anime fans with a special reveal of another anime set to stream next year, Kaiju No. 8. If you’re looking for a new anime to watch, you definitely want to check out what’s coming.
Classroom of the Elite fans should start preparing now, as season three will launch on Crunchyroll in January. NYCC Crunchyroll panel attendees got to view a new trailer for the upcoming season, and it will probably lead to some post-NYCC binges of the first two seasons.
In the spirit of sharing new trailers, Crunchyroll streamed a world premiere, first-look trailer for Bye Bye, Earth at it’s NYCC panel. Attendees also got a glimpse of key art from the original anime series. Bye Bye, Earth follows Belle Lablac, who was born as a human in a world of anthropomorphic animals. With the Runding (a large sword that is her height) in hand, she embarks on a journey to find someone she can relate to. Wow.
Additional anime titles joining the streaming platform next year include Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf, 7th Time Loop: The Villainess Enjoys a Carefree Life Married to Her Worst Enemy!, Metallic Rouge, and The Foolish Angel Dances with the Devil. It seems like there’s something for every type of anime fan.
To close the panel, Kaiju No. 8 “janitors” swept through the audience as if they were cleaning up a Kaiju attack. The anime, set to premiere on Crunchyroll next Spring, is an adaptation of the original manga and will be subtitled and dubbed. In Kaiju No. 8, monsters (kaiju) often attack residents of the city, and despite his dream to join Japan Defense Force with his childhood best friend Mina Ashiro, Kafka Hibino is instead on a crew that cleans up after the attacks. The anime follows the cleaning crewmember as he aims to fight by Mina’s side and defeat monsters.
Anime-lovers were treated to clips from the show, art created specifically for NYCC attendes, and a special note from the Kaiju No. 8 creator. The letter from creator Naoya Matsumoto read “Hello from Japan to everyone attending New York Comic Con. I’m the author of Kaiju No. 8, Naoya Matsumoto. It’s a story about someone struggling in a harsh world without ever giving up, in the hopes of leading people into an even slightly brighter future. To anyone dealing with the complexities of reality that reads this manga, I hope it can help make your future a little brighter, too. Next year when Kaiju No. 8 begins to air in America and worldwide, I’ll be looking forward to seeing your reactions. I hope you’re looking forward to it, too!”
The artwork featured Kafka Hibino and a dead kaiju in the street, surrounded by New York icons like the Empire State Building. Based on the art, trailer, and what we know from the manga, we’re already ready for some merch!
Now, if all these new titles aren’t enough to make your anime-loving heart soar, Crunchyroll will also stream the My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! Movie next year. One Piece fans are also in luck because new One Piece dubs will sail onto the platform on Oct. 24. Season 14, Voyage 11 dubs will be available so you can join the pirates on their journey, this time with the dubbed version.
While these animes won’t be available on Crunchyroll for a few more months, there is a new anime that might be able to hold you over. On Oct. 12, episode one of Dr. Stone: New World dropped on the streaming platform. Until next year, there are plenty of animes available to stream on Crunchyroll. Or, you could just rewatch all of the trailers for the upcoming titles. It’s your world!
