If there’s one thing about Star Wars fans, it’s that they know their fandom inside out — and so does Denuo Novo. This subsidiary of Rubies II was founded last year and is already winning awards for its high-end Star Wars costumes and collectibles.
The company debuted the new Poe Dameron Blue Squadron Premier Helmet Accessory at New York Comic Con (NYCC), a wearable helmet modeled after the Resistance starfighter played by Oscar Isaac in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The helmet features an outer shell made of fiberglass with Poe Dameron’s Blue Squadron helmet markings on it, and a fully lined interior complete with removable adjustment pillows. It is available to preorder for $675 on denuonovo.com.
The Star Wars: The Mandalorian helmet based on Din Djarin was also on display at the Denuo Novo booth (No. 2900), which Product Director Mark Von Ohlen says is the company’s top-selling product. NYCC attendees also got to feast their eyes on the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Kylo Ren Helmet, featuring a fiberglass helmet with a metal grill on the front and a mesh lens in front of the eyes. The helmets feature a size adjustment system for a comfortable fit.
“We take a lot of care to match what was seen on screen very closely, so when we get assets from LucasFilm, we get excellent photography and we also [get] 3D turns — actual 3D models, like OBJ files — for us to use for the sculpting process,” Von Ohlen tells The Pop Insider. “We really try to capture every little bit of wear and tear as seen on the helmet, so you can see little dents, rivets, and the actual battle damage that was seen in the movies. For example, we have a helmet based on Kylo Ren’s helmet from Episode IX after it got destroyed, rebuilt, and repaired with the red. We found a paint that gives sort of a trick that looks like it’s glowing even though there aren’t electronics in this helmet.”
Aside from helmets, Denuo Novo also makes screen-accurate costumes, including the Star Wars Imperial Officer Uniform that was on display at NYCC. The costume is straight out of 1977’s Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope. Fans can purchase the tunic, pants, belt, hat, and badge individually to complete the costume.
