The Princess Bride

The Princess Bride is one step closer to a musical adaptation as Disney Theatrical Productions confirms that a creative team has been secured. Composer and lyricist David Yazbek will write the score and writers Rick Elice and Bob Martin will write the book.

Adapted from William Goldman’s novel of the same name in 1987, The Princess Bride film is a fairy tale adventure about a man named Westley (Cary Elwes) who embarks on a quest to save his childhood love, Buttercup (Robin Wright), after she’s kidnapped. The original film also stars Chris Sarandon, Christopher Guest, Mandy Patinkin, Wallace Shawn, Billy Crystal, Carol Kane, and André the Giant.

Goldman tried to take his story to Broadway in 2006, but it didn’t work out after he clashed with composer Adam Guettel. Inconceivable!
