Hasbro hit Comic-Con International: San Diego (SDCC) in a big way this year, with its usually robust panels for Star Wars, Marvel Legends, and Transformers playing to packed rooms during the event.
On Saturday, the G.I. Joe brand team took the stage to share the latest news on its growing collection of Classified Series action figures and vehicles — a line that continues to do well despite a lack of entertainment content to fuel it like its counterparts within the Hasbro stable.
Let’s take a look at what fans can look forward to in the months ahead!
G.I. Joe Classified Series Cobra H.I.S.S. — Fire Team 788 (Dec. 1)
We knew about this one when The Pop Insider took part in the G.I. Joe summer roundtable last month. Those who backed the EPIC-sized Cobra H.I.S.S. Tank Haslab project will want to add this Hasbro Pulse exclusive to their army as the Fire Team 788 is a trio of reinforcements that specialize in sporting the H.I.S.S. as “tank flankers.” It includes an Officer, Ranger Viper, and Trooper alongside 35 character-inspired accessory pieces, including 11 blast and laser effects, 3 backpacks, officer and infantry helmets, a bandolier, a bandana, an axe, a sai, a knife, and more. Get it here, while supplies last. Number 110 in the Classified Series.
G.I. Joe Classified Series Tripwire, Apsara, & M.A.C.L.E.O.D., 78 (Dec. 1)
Tripwire comes ready for action with 15 accessories, including his bomb-sniffing rat “Apsara,” robot M.A.C.L.E.O.D. (Mobile Armored Control Lever for Ordnance Disposal) with remote control, mine sweeper, heavy and light armor gear, neck guards and helmets, 2 mines, a backpack, and a weapon plus a footlocker to hold all of his gear. Tripwire freaks people out. Get him from Hasbro Pulse, while supplies last. Number 78 in the Classified Series.
G.I. Joe Classified Series Steel Corps 2-Pack (TBA)
This is another set that was previewed during the summer roundtable. Fans will be able to add a pair of Steel Corps Troops inspired by the 1980s mail-in figure to their collections very soon. Preorders are expected to pop up online beginning Monday, July 24.
Cobra Crimson Guard Strike Team (PulseCon Exclusive)
The rumors are true: Tomax, Xamot, and The Baroness will don their Crimson gear for a three-pack set that will be sold as a Hasbro PulseCon exclusive later this year. While we know that it’s number 82 in the Classified Series, there is no pricing or date attached just yet. The set comes in a briefcase that may look familiar to anyone that has seen the SDCC-exclusive Chuckles figure — it’s designed to look like the case he’s pictured stealing on the package art!
Name Only Pipeline Reveals
No word yet on release dates, but Jinx (styled after G.I. Joe: The Movie), Torch (Dreadnok), Retro Duke, and Retro Scarlett are in development.
Vehicles that aren’t Haslab Projects
Responding to fan feedback, Hasbro is working on vehicles that are smaller in scale and will not be created via Haslab crowdfunding projects. First off, the tow hook on the H.I.S.S. Tank has a purpose as an SMS and Techno-Viper will be released. Additionally, one of the very first vehicles from the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero line from 1982 is making the jump into the Classified Series with a VAMP & Clutch set on the way. No release dates or pricing details are available at this time.
Like the tow hook on the H.I.S.S. was called “future-proofing,” expect the same for the VAMP. A physical model may debut at Hasbro PulseCon later this year.
Render Reveals
Hawk, Helix, and Shockwave will join the G.I. Joe team in the months ahead while the Cobra Python Patrol adds Copperhead and a Cobra Officer. For the mercenaries in the house, Zartan’s crew of Dreadnoks expands with Buzzer and Ripper.
Bonus Booth Reveal
Junkyard Dog and Mutt are joining the Classified Series later this year. Mutt even includes interchangeable heads!
We hope this intel has proven useful for you, so YO JOE!
