A new Riverdale series may come as soon as the 2019-2020 TV season.
The CW President Mark Pedowitz confirmed yesterday that Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is in early stages of developing a new spinoff based on the Archie Comics characters. “He has something in mind,” Pedowitz told reporters at the CW’s Television Critics Association executive session.
The showrunner remained tight lipped on what character(s) the new series could be about—if it is even based on a character we already know from the first two seasons of the series. However, he verified that it will not involve anything from The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina world, which is coming to Netflix on Oct. 26 and was originally slated as a companion show to Riverdale on The CW. There will be no inter-network crossovers.
“We’re really excited, but we’re still early on in the process,” Aguirre-Sacasa told reporters. “It will be very different from Riverdale.”
So far, only time will tell what this third potential series will be.
