Something is ready to invade your home arcade!
As “Space Invaders” prepares to celebrate its 45th anniversary next year, Numskull has revealed that this arcade classic will join its ongoing Quarter Arcades line of 1:4-scale cabinet replicas.
There are multiple new Space Invaders cabinets, featuring both “Space Invaders” and “Space Invaders: Part II.” These replica machines are all about 17 inches tall and they are fully functional. Players can take on aliens on the games’ 5-inch, full-color screens using the joystick controls from the original ’70s arcade machines.
To start, there are standard editions of each Space Invaders cabinet, which cost $299.99 each. Fans who preorder either cabinet from Just Geek will also get a matching, scaled Taito Space Invaders stool that matches the replica. The next step up is the coin edition, which includes both the replica cabinet and a special collector’s coin for $339.99.
Finally, there are limited-edition versions of each cabinet. And they are very limited, with only 78 of each cabinet available. This super-exclusive collectible comes in special packaging, includes both the stool and the coin, and comes with a collector’s postcard and a certificate of authenticity. If all of that wasn’t cool enough, these limited-edition cabinets are also signed by Tomohiro Nishikado, the creator of “Space Invaders.” The limited-edition versions are available exclusively from Just Geek for $699.99.
All versions of the Space Invaders Quarter Arcades are available to preorder now, with an expected ship date of next summer.
