Spider-Man: Far From Home released in the U.S. yesterday, and it did *not* come to play. The newest Marvel film generated $39.2 million from more than 4,000 North American locations yesterday.
The Tom Holland-led superhero flick set a new record for Tuesday ticket sales. The film is keeping it in the family, though: the previous record was held by 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man (starring Andrew Garfield) with $35 million.
The film, part of Sony’s Marvel Universe, is expected to bring in $125 million during its first six days in theaters, with some projections nearing $150 million. For comparison, Holland’s first Spider-Man standalone — 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming — brought in $117 million in a three-day period.
Even before yesterday’s debut, our spidey sense was tingling that this movie would be a box-office hit: It brought in roughly $110 million in China, Hong Kong, and Japan last weekend, according to Deadline.
