The ending of the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi is bittersweet. Kenobi saves Princess Leia from the Empire, but he also knows that Anakin Skywalker, his former Padawan and best friend, has taken on the mantle of Darth Vader.
Artist Jason Edmiston has taken the scene where Kenobi cracks open Vader’s helmet, revealing the man inside, and applied it to his ongoing “Eyes Without a Face” poster series from Mondo.
Edmiston’s “Eyes Without A Face” series features art that specifically highlights the eyes of characters from pop culture. For the first time, Mondo has entered a licensing agreement — in partnership with Acme Archives — to add Star Wars characters to this popular art line. This new collaboration will kick off with two designs inspired by Obi-Wan Kenobi. The first, called “The Master’s Lament,” shows Kenobi’s eyes welling with tears as his face is bathed in the blue light from his lightsaber. The second, “Fallen Apprentice,” shows Darth Vader with his mask cracked open to reveal the man within. Half of the portrait shows the unfeeling metal exterior of the helmet, while the other half shows the warped hatred of the Sith’s face, complete with a yellow eye.
Mondo is selling these paintings as 9-by-5-inch poster prints for $35 each at mondoshop.com. The prints will only be available starting today, Dec. 13, at noon CT and will only be on sale until Friday, Dec. 16, at 11:59 a.m. CT. However, if you can’t get your hands on these prints, Mondo and Edmiston are adding more to the series soon.
Once you buy your prints (and you can’t stop sobbing), it’s time to rewatch Obi-Wan Kenobi.
