Hasbro Sith Trooper

With Comic-Con International: San Diego (SDCC) just a week away, speculation is growing as to what will be revealed from all the big franchises, and Star Wars is certainly part of that. While Lucasfilm‘s big reveals from a galaxy far, far away could be saved for Disney’s own D23 Expo next month, there’s plenty of Star Wars goodness coming to San Diego, and one piece just hit today: Sith Troopers.

Featured in J.J. Abrams’ forthcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the Sith Troopers are described as “the next evolution of Imperial/First Order soldiers.” On the surface, the immediate reaction is that these pair various elements from the Stormtroopers, the Emperor’s Imperial Guards, and Snoke’s Praetorian Guards. A Sith Trooper costume will be featured as part of a Stormtrooper armor display in the Star Wars Pavilion (booth No. 2913) at SDCC.

“It has some really unique aesthetics to it,” says Madlyn Burkert, Lucasfilm archivist, who is co-producing the exhibit. “And it has some subtle ties to previous stormtrooper designs, which I think fans will enjoy discovering.” The news broke simultaneously on The Star Wars Show and at starwars.com.

The “Sith Trooper” name has been used a few times over the years, but this is the first time that it’s been applied on screen. What, exactly, these red-suited Troopers do is something best answered when Rise of Skywalker hits screens this December.
