The Golden Girls is entering its golden years. As the beloved sitcom turns 40, Disney Entertainment TV is releasing all sorts of new products, events, and television specials to thank you for being a fan.
The collection features treats for fans young and old, from Brickcraft building playsets to delicious sips from Nocking Point Wines. The lyrics of the series’ iconic theme song, “Thank You for Being a Friend,” will appear on merch for the first time, including a Furbish Studio throw pillow, Candier candles, and a new cheesecake-flavored soft-serve at Yogurtland. Zero Waste Daniel is launching a limited-edition apparel collection inspired by the fierce foursome, and is even turning its Brooklyn flagship location into an immersive Golden Girls dreamscape until Aug. 17. Mattel’s Fisher-Price released a stunning 40th Anniversary Little People Collector set earlier this year, but the party is just getting started. The brand is launching a playful series of shorts titled Little People Collector Mini Adventures, starring the figures from the set! Each episode captures the heart and hilarity of the original sitcom for a new generation to enjoy. The series will air across Fisher-Price’s social media accounts, with a charming 40th anniversary celebration to debut Sept. 14.
If you’re flipping through channels trying to find TVLand, you’d better pause on ABC News! This fall, the network will release a one-hour special giving fans an inside look at the making of The Golden Girls. Starring series creator Susan Harris, producer Tony Thomas, and many of the original writers and producers, the special will explore how Dorothy, Blanche, Rose, and Sophia’s 40-year friendship changed the world for women in comedy, creating a story that will stay golden for all time.
