To celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Lion King, Hasbro is releasing a singing Lion King edition of Monopoly and it’s fully decked out with details from the classic Disney movie.
Players can choose characters from the movie as their game pieces, including Simba, Nala, Mufasa, Scar, Timon, and Pumbaa. The game features a mini Pride Rock that sings the opening seconds of “The Circle of Life” with the push of a button.
The mini Pride Rock also acts as a cardholder for the new “Destiny cards” that replace the typical Chance and Community Chest cards. Each card features a scene from the film. The artwork featured on all of the game cards and on the board itself comes straight from the Disney Animation Library. The outside of the box also features sketches of characters from the movie.
Instead of purchasing the typical Monopoly properties, players can buy Lion King locales, including Pride Rock and the elephant graveyard. The usual spots on the game board, such as “Park Place” and “Boardwalk,” are switched out for places and things you’d find in The Lion King, including “Circle of Life,” “Sunrise,” “Traitor,” and “The King Returns.” The plastic hotels and houses are replaced by plastic beetles and grubs.
The game will be available at Walmart this Monday for $39.99, and will be available at other retailers in June.
